I strongly suspect it is a cross-domain data issue and Chrome is not allowing you to read your local data file. This is described in more detail in the first part of our “Getting Started” support article:

Chrome is recommended. If you are not running a local web server you may need to set a browser flag to allow local file access (to load the sample data.) Here are some helpful tips for using local file access with chrome for Mac and Windows

You will want to open up the Chrome developer tools and see what errors are getting logged at the console to debug this.
